Our story

Sent out to do a work.

“Therefore I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down.” Nehemiah 6:3

Through much prayer and fasting, Pastor Charlie Grear Jr. was charged by God to do the work of a shepherd. He served faithfully at Tabernacle Church under the leadership of the late Bishop R. Wells and Dr. J. Wells throughout his Christian journey. He was baptized on October 22, 1994, received the gift of the Holy Ghost, and was ordained an elder in January 2000.

After Bishop Wells passed, God instructed Pastor Grear to attend Church at New Orleans (CANO) under the leadership of Bishop Kevin J. Boyd Sr.. As Bishop Boyd preached the Word of God, chains were broken and Pastor Grear was prepared for the work to which he had been called.

On August 1, 2020, Bishop Kevin J. Boyd Sr. laid hands on Pastor Grear, anointed him and sent him out to do the work of a shepherd. The Holy Word Church was founded that day. Pastor Grear placed the ministry under Bishop Boyd and the Church of Apostolic Faith (C.A.F.). On June 7, 2024, he was ordained a pastor in the C.A.F. Fellowship, with Bishop Boyd serving as Presiding Bishop.

Pastor Grear and The Holy Word Church remain grateful to CANO and Bishop Boyd for the compassion they have shown the saints. Today the church continues in the same calling: Pentecost in experience, Apostolic in doctrine, sharing the love of Jesus in worship and throughout the community.

Pastor Charlie Grear Jr. and Lady T. were united in marriage on March 3, 2024. Before joining him in ministry, Lady T. served faithfully at New Philippians Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Anthony JeanMarie, where she was Youth Director and a member of the Praise Team.

She now serves alongside her husband as Praise & Worship Leader at The Holy Word Church. She also serves the community through the fourth-Saturday outreach and the church’s women and dance ministries. On June 27, 2026, Lady T. launched Passion & Purpose Dance Ministry, which made its debut during the church’s anniversary celebration.
